Film und _ is an open invitation to dialogue: The format is explicitly dedicated to artist film and its interrelationships with other visual, applied, and time-based art forms.
The exploration of the body as a surface for inscription and expression has a long tradition in queer-feminist performance history. Not least because sensory experiences manifest themselves with particular clarity on the body—from (sexual) pleasure to pain that is almost indescribable. During filming, the camera does not assume a purely documentary role, but rather becomes, in some cases, an accomplice to the artist or a substitute addressee for those who have looked away or turned a deaf ear for too long. Breath and voice sometimes give expression to these experiences. The idea of how a body should be and look is often shaped by mediatized images rather than by our everyday observations; yet in reality, the standardized body represents the exception rather than the rule. The performance artists in this program demonstrate, in very different yet always socio-politically relevant ways, how traditional attributions can be subverted and renegotiated through the staging of alternative body images. The spectrum ranges from sensitive and playful to radical and humorous to liberating: all bodies of substance.
